Skarsböle Gård: traditional and natural farm

Skarsböle Gård is a family-run organic farm in Ekenäs, offering unforgettable accommodation in a log house and experiences in the nature. We pride ourselves on our natural surroundings, which are ideal for couples, friends and families. The long tradition of the host family dates back to 1844, and we have received a lot of positive feedback from our satisfied guests.

We offer unique experiences, including visits with goats and rabbits. Our guests have enjoyed our relaxing private sauna and our calming environment, located only 15 minutes from the Ekenäs city center.

History

Skarsböle Gård history since 1844

Skarsböle has a long tradition of growing sugar beet, but in 2018 it switched to organic hay farming. In the summer, both sheep and cows graze here on the landscape restoration plots. This aims to revive part of the old agricultural landscape and promote biodiversity. History is always present.

The host family has been farming Skarsböle since 1844, meaning that the farm is currently run by the sixth and seventh generations of the family. The first part of the farm name refers to the old male name Skari and the last part böle means “distant pasture land”.

The history of the area goes back a long way. Several Bronze Age stone cairns from 3,000 years ago can be found in the forest environment, when the area was an archipelago. The sea water was 15–20 m higher, and our farm is located along an old sea route, which is now a field.

Skarsböle also has an ancient settlement from the period 800–1000, when a boat nail, copper pieces and a cremation ground were found in a forest pasture. From 1696, Skarsböle served as the residence of a non-commissioned officer of the Swedish Crown and his military squad, which is why 18th century coins and musket balls can still be found in the fields.
